1998
Submission to the Night Walker
Competition in Fort Collins included Michael's largest exhibited work to
date. "Elbow Falls Kananaskis" measured 60" wide by
25" high. The frame added 6" in each direction.
1999
A year transition, Michael's
work was displayed in New Arts International as well as on the internet
for the first time
2000
Returning to the Art Essential
Exhibition in Calgary in the fall, two of Michael's largest watercolor
works ever produced were displayed. His unique style with the medium
began to emerge with greater impact at this point.
2001
A very unique work titled
"Dunes I: Fossil River" was exhibited in the spring at the SWA
20th Anniversary Show in Fort worth, Texas. The painting was featured in
the Star-Telegram Art Critic review. As Andrew Marton writes, "Dunes
1: Fossil River is a suitably sun-baked landscape that strands its viewer
astride in a series of pale mocha dunes."
2002
The colored pencil painting "The
Ground Beneath Our Feet" was accepted into the Mother Lode International Art
Competition in Placerville, California. The painting was given an "Award of
Merit" and highlighted in the Exhibition catalogue. This painting is also
the title piece to the 2001 series of landscape paintings rendered in
watercolor and colored pencil media.
2003
Les Cercle des Artistes Peintres
et Sculpteurs du Quebec in Laval, Quebec held its 20th Anniversary International
Exhibition in which Michael was fortunate enough to participate in. This
marked the first time that Michael formerly showed some work in Eastern
Canada and more importantly in the French-Canadian marketplace. Surrealistic
landscape images of Western Canada were submitted for the one-month
exhibition. 2004 Les Cercle des Artistes Peintres
et Sculpteurs du Quebec in Laval, Quebec held its 21st Anniversary
International Exhibition at the Popesco Exhibition Centre in Montreal. The
submission of Michael's choice, "A Tree Pattern" exhibited very well and was
given an Honour of Distinction Award in the "Realitie
Figurative" Category. While it is a great opportunity to exhibit in
Montreal, a city resonating with the arts, it is very exciting to be
recognized on this level among so many other participants.
2005
Featured on the inside cover of the "Living Artists" 14th Edition
catalogue art publication by The ArtNetwork. The painting entered for jury
for this competition was "A Tree Pattern". A well traveled painting that has
shown in a dozen exhibitions in 3 years. This beautiful watercolor was
eventually sold early in 2006 to a couple in Edmonton, Alberta.
2006
At the conclusion of the exhibition at The Schacknow Museum of Fine Arts in
Florida, two of the latest completed watercolors disappeared. The paintings
titled "Prairie Boys" and "Golden Morning Tango" never arrived back in
Calgary. They have yet to be found. |

"Checkered Rose Blue"
(17"W x 14"H) This
colored pencil painting was featured at the Colored Pencil Society of
America's September Show in 1998 in Denver, Colorado. It was also the
subject of Merit of Excellence recognition in Manhattan Arts International
Magazine in 1998.
"Blue Bubble Cattleya"
(14"W x 17"H) This
colored pencil painting was the first colored pencil exhibited and sold in
1998 from Michael Brenner. It was also the subject of Merit of Excellence
recognition in Manhattan Arts International Magazine in 1999.
"Rooftops of My
Mind"
(28"W x 22"H)
The application of the colored pencil medium continues to
evolve in the "City Lights" series. Colored pencil is applied over a
graphite drawing with as many as 18 layers of color in some areas. The
largest areas are covered with a light colored pencil base and then
highlighted with several blended layers of oil pastel. the effects are
astounding.
"Desert Stone"
(29"W x 21"H)
This was one of the paintings featured in the 20th Anniversary
International Exhibition in Montreal Quebec this past summer with Les
Cercle des Artistes Peintres et Sculptures du Quebec. This style, with
references drawn from the west made a positive impact in a very "urban"
eastern marketplace.
"Prairie Boys"
(44"W x 22"H)
This painting consisted of approximately 80% watercolor and
20% oil pastel. It was seen only once at a solo exhibition in Florida at
the beginning of 2006. It has since disappeared never to be returned to
the studio from that show although it was recorded to be in transit by the
shipping company. |
